Most of you must have known what am I going to pursue in my life. I was looking for universities that have great astronomy department, hopefully great natural science departments and aerospace engineering department too. Yup, I’m greedy, I want to indulge myself with many fields that I am curious to learn more.
Initially, I have quite a number of schools in my wishlist and most of them are in US. After looking into the details, I only found out that I had to take SAT Reasoning Test and SAT Subject Test which were compulsory for the schools in my list. Previously, I thought TOEFL + 2 SAT Subject Test would do but that’s just for MIT. I’ve taken my SAT Subject Test: Physics & Math Level 2 on 6 Dec 2008. Next will be the SAT Reasoning Test on 24 Jan 2009. I scored 800 in Physics and 670 in Math Level 2.
Now, let’s go on to the schools in my list.
2008 is going to pass soon. I shall do a review of the important astronomy research in 2008. However, I’m still busy applying to US universities. My head is going to explode anytime soon.
Wish you a happy new year! ![]()
All my fellow friends,
May you all the best in 2009! Thank you for the support since the I started this blog near the end of 2005. I’m appointed by International Sidewalk Astronomy Group as the National Organiser. I feel so proud and definitely will contribute everything I could for the International Year of Astronomy.
If you are a hardcore of AstronomyNotes.net, do you notice that this year I’ve embeded a greeting picture in this post? Well.. obviously my sister isn’t in the mood to draw me one. Anyway, I still like her artwork very much.

I must admit that she has the talent that I’ve lost since I stop drawing. ![]()
AstronomyNotes.net has a new home now. It’s now hosted at 1.com.my and my domain name is now under the management of Godaddy.com. The server is located in US so my loyal readers in US don’t have to worry about the network latency. It’s just moderate for me. ![]()
P/S: Astronomynotes.net is still here, just the server changed
Another great improvement will be the introduction of bilingual posts. I will work on both the English and Chinese articles. I’ll try my best to benefit everybody, especially CHHS Astronomy Club members and my juniors.
Well… that’s all for today. I’m too tired to continue.
Coming soon:
- Converging Planets – Look to the west after sunset
- My plans for tertiary education
- Lots of news. Of course, in summary.
- International Astronomy Year 2009 (IYA2009)
- and more…
I am going to sit for UEC (Unified Exam of Chinese School) tomorrow onwards. I have not been active here for so many months as I have to focus on my study. After this exam, I can finally back into blogging.
By the way, have you watched the Orionids which peaked on yesterday morning? Sky has been cloudy for 2 months here.
Happy Chinese New Year everybody! Don’t forget to use your telescope as usual as you can. The great wonders of sky are waiting for us but our body aren’t.
Here are my greetings for everybody!

13 September 2007 – Thomas M. Back has passed away (1957-2007). He was a famous optical designer. You can still find a lots of his designs among the market such as the TMB Planetary series eyepieces, TMB Paragon eyepieces, Williams Optics FLT 110mm APO TMB and many others refractors. It’s pity that our amateur astronomy community lost such a great person.
Don’t worry about what telescope you own, or its quality. Just get out under the night sky, and enjoy God’s wondrous universe.
This is what he said to the members of CloudyNights.com when CN reviewed him. I will always carry this quote with me. I was always thinking of getting better equipments and forgot the true virtue that an amateur astronomer got to have.
Let us send our condolences to his family. R.I.P., we will always remember you!
Oh my goodness… the holidays end today. Franky speaking, these holidays are all occupied by the preparation of Science Exhibition which will be held on 28-30 August 2007 in my school main hall. Our school Astronomy Club and Science Club work together to organise this event.
I have made myself a solar firm using the Kendrick Solar Firm 250×250mm. When you buy it, there is an instruction sheet inside to guide you throughout the process. I haven’t tried using the solar firm yet but I pray that nobody will have their eyes damaged when viewing through my solar filtered LX90. Let’s pray…
We have prepared 3 double-sided screen with quite a lot of beginner information attached. The aim is to promote amateur astronomy and guide them to the wonder of the night skies. Hopefully, the primary school students will be amazed at what we are doing.
Ok, that’s all for today. I am going to take a deep breath and sleep. ![]()
