Tony Silva, the president of Sao Paula Astronomy Club, Brazil, member of Sidewalk Astronomers (I’m one of them) invites you to join the Sidewalk Astronomy Handbook Project. It’s devised by CASP and the Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers. They had the idea for this as they believe that sidewalk astronomy should play a big role in International Year of Astronomy in 2009. There will be a series of events to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei’s first telescope observation.
Tony said,
The project basically involves creating a very comprehensive Sidewalk Astronomy Handbook, written collaboratively by SA members from different countries. Our goal is to put together a collection of practical and applicable ideas for sidewalk events under a wide range of circumstances, for example, observations of the sun at 40° Celsius at the beach in Rio and observations of a lunar eclise below freezing in Krasnoyarsk. Therefore, the handbook will be an invaluable resource for all those who want to start doing sidewalk observations or to improve their existing events.
To join the sidewalk_astronomy Yahoo Group to discuss the details or suggest some ideas with all the participants, please send an blank email to

P.S. I have joined it, what about you?
